today, i had a flight scheduled to leave kelowna, the airport nearest to where my girlfriend maya lives in british columbia, at 3:30 pm. it would take me to seattle, then st. louis, and then home to charlotte in plenty of time to be at church sunday night. i got to the airport at 2:20, but it’s an incredibly small airport, so i figured 45 minutes before boarding would’ve been plenty of time to check my bag and get through security. and it would’ve.
but, unbeknownst to me, for this specific flight through alaska air at this specific small airport, you’re actually required to get there an hour prior to boarding. so, as you could probably guess, i missed it. and after much stress, frantically trying (in vain) to find an alaska air representative, then talking to multiple people who didn’t really care when i got to charlotte, i got rebooked to a flight tomorrow morning at 6 am. it’s not the most convenient, as i’ll miss church tomorrow night. and things like this tend to really frustrate and get under my skin, and this did too.
but now, i’m sitting in a rad coffee shop in this cool city called kelowna with my girlfriend, when we should’ve been apart for over an hour by now. i might even get time to explore seattle some tomorrow morning. what’s causing you frustration might just be god’s favor in disguise. though it isn’t the most convenient, i didn’t have to pay any extra to switch my flights around. i don’t have to get back to charlotte significantly later. and best of all, i get an extra half day with my girl who lives nearly 3000 miles away.
god is good, all the time. we just have to learn to see it.
